Next to the last trip here in Fiji before the boat comes out for a major refit. This week we had 18 guests all of which are frequent divers of the Aggressor Fleet. Many of the divers have been here 2 or 3 times so the diving and the crew were familiar to almost everyone. Several of the guests will be staying on for another week of diving. We had the Captain Amanda of the Turks and Caicos Aggressor here this week for a well deserved vacation and we did not make her work at all. Everyone was taking pictures and getting great shots of all the soft corals and beautiful marine life that Fiji offers. The divers had great fun at the village visit and joined in with the natives and their culture events. Great week!
The crossings this week were not as rough as last week. The waters have come down considerably. The diving this week was beautiful. We had blue waters with great visibility and plenty of critters. We started this week in Wakaya and had great results during the first dive bringing in hammerheads and manta's! Great way to start! We finished the area with ghost pipe fish, leaf fish, garden eels, lion fish and nudis. Day 2 and 3 we moved on to the Namena reef area where we had numerous encounters with small critters, seahorses, pipe fish, Moyers dragonets, nudis, octopus and anthias. But the big animals did not fail us at the dive site Save-a-Tack where we had schools of barracuda, horse eye jacks, dog tooth tuna and grey reef sharks! Very exciting! The “Window of Dreams” is a special dive site and everyone was able to get some great photo's. Day 4 we moved on to the island of Makogai where we dove beautiful bommies filled with massive soft corals and sea fans. Everyone enjoyed the red anemones, anemone fish, pipefish and the thousands of anthias. Day 5 we moved to the island of Gau where we were able to do Nigali Pass twice. It was spectacular as the grey reef sharks came in to feed! This is a great dive and not one to pass up when in Fiji. We slowly did our last dives at Jim's Ally before making our way back to Suva. Fantastic week and great fun!
The weather topside was nice and warm with cool breezes. Below the water line Fiji is a little cooler this time of the year so it is important to bring ample wetsuit protection. But compared to last week it was a couple of degrees warmer. The visibility was very nice, 80 to 200 foot. The currents were mild and the waters over all this week were nice and calm. We could not have asked for better conditions!
Thanks Dave & Sue, Ray, John, Denise, Shalair, Paula & Brad, Julie & David, Diane & Seth, Linda & Tabby, Vonne & George, and Amanda & Rob for diving with us this week.
Safe Diving
