This week we had Larry Abbott back with a group from his store in Columbus, Ohio. Aquatic Adventures is the largest dive center in that part of the U.S and Larry continues to take travelers all over the globe. We had some of our old friends back this week along with Larry who had been with us many previous years. Bob, Clay and Gianni had all been here on trips in the past with Larry and it was wonderful to see them all again. Bob finally brought Susie, his wife. We had heard many stories about her and it was great to finally meet her in person. It was like old home week for the guests and crew. The whole group was great! Special congratulations for Allison and Tim for sharing their honeymoon with us. They all were fun to dive with and we look forward to their return. A quick note to Larry and Bob we will always do our best to leave 15 minutes early!!!
Sightings: This Monday we started with Ulong Island and the divers were covered in the giant bait ball as a welcoming dive at Ulong Gardens. Their were thousands of fish mixed in with the divers and grey reef sharks attempting to feed. Monday afternoon we moved on to the German Channel area. The last dive of the day at German brought us schooling manta's feeding! What a sight it was to see all our divers surrounded by those majestic animals! Tuesday we were off to Blue Corner, New Drop and German Channel once again with the same results were now the manta rays were mating while feeding. Great action with barracuda, napoleon wrasse, turtles, and grey reef sharks. Wednesday the weather was fine so off to Peleliu we went where we dove Peleliu Corner, West Wall, Orange Beach and Barracks point all resulting in great macro opportunities for the photographers. Thursday we were back in the German Channel area diving the Blue Holes, Ngedebus Corner and Turtle Cove, bringing more nudibranch, turtles, barracuda, white tip and grey reef sharks. Friday we were back in Ulong diving the famous Ulong Channel and had great shark action as well as large dogtooth tuna feeding at the mouth. We were able to coast through the channel and what a spectacular sight this is for coral lovers! Table top, soft corals, sea fans galore finishing it off with some giant clams at the end of the channel! Saturday the Jellyfish Lake and Rock Island tour put the final touches on what was a another week of diving with Larry and Friends!
Weather: The weather was beautiful all week! We had some rain showers that passed by with winds that reached 20-30 knots at times. The currents were strong this week a couple of times but the divers handled it all well. Please keep in mind that the weather can change in a moments notice so it is a good idea to bring windbreakers and a warm sweatshirt. Of course there is our boutique full of things that can keep you warm if you want to take a souvenir home with you.
Thank you Larry Abbott for a bringing another great group of divers! Also thank you Bob & Susie, Clay, Gianni, Tanny & John, Rick & Becky, Allison & Tim, Nyles, Ralph and Dan for sharing a fun filed week of diving in Palau with us.
Always Safe Diving
Capt. Mike
