June 24-July 2, 2006 Recommended Suit: 3 mil with vest hood and gloves or 5 mm. Average water temperature: 78F with thermoclimes around 74F. Air temperature: 82F. Weather: Cloudy with showers.
Best dives: Lone Stone, Alcyone and Dirty Rock.

Nice and smooth crossing from Puntarenas to Cocos Island, this week, guest from New Zealand, USA and Japan came along to experience the exiting diving in Cocos Island.

On the first day, Chattam and Manuelita both sides, north and south were our chosen dives. We started seeing schoolinh hammerheads from the second dive having a 100 feet visibility on these Manuelita dives.

Second day we chose, Puntamaria, Dirty Rock and Pajara, Punta Maria was schocking!! Hammerheads coming right to us while we were close to the cleaning stations, green moreys everywhere, marble rays, eagle rays and a huge school of Jackfish, trying to hunt together with the whitetips, on the outside pinnnacle of Punta Maria. We had no current at all during the whole week, and even though, all the dives were incredibly busy.

Dirty Rock, as usual one of our nicest dives. With its always present marble rays flying around us and hammerheaads coming up towars the reef, we had a fantastic and great viz dive. Pajara surprinsigly had hammereads as well. Guys, you cant have a dive without seeing a hammerhead this time of the year in Cocos. On the shallow sandy bottom of Pajara, we had fantastic viz and we were taking pictures and videoing all the whitetips lying on the sand, rock movers and their juveniles and then school of snappers and rays.

On the third day, we chose Alcyone, Lone Stone and Submerged Rock, viz in Lone Stone was this time for sure more than 100 feet, we had 7 eagle rays dancing in front of us till our air was low and we had to leave. When we went out to the blue, we found this huge ball of jackfish where we all went and swam through. No current again on Lone Stone, but yes a bit of swell. Alcyone was as usual one of the best, schools of hammerheads deep, shallow on the blue, on the cleaning stations, just everywhere!
Submerged as usual with its beautiful arch, but not good viz on this one.

Dos Amigos was as well, one of the best dives of the week, especially Dos Amigos pequeña, absolutely packed with hammerheads and even a silky feeding on a fish ball.
Viz was excellent and hammerheads didnt even care about us being there, they just kept coming and coming.

As for night dives: we chose, Manuelita and Wafer Bay, a really good night dive with sleeping turtlers.
On the last diving day, we chose Alcyone and Manuelita as our last dive.

Cocos is being better than ever!!! We are looking forward having you on board! Best regards from Okeanos crew, and many many thanks to our guests for being so easy going.
Hope to see you guys back!

PURA VIDA,
Onditz Calparsoro.
