Dive Sites: Sandy Slope

The week started out with our check out dives at Sandy Slope on Turneffe Atoll. After everyone got weighted properly we started our descent and one of the first things we saw was a huge Eagle Ray gliding across the sand. As we continued with the diving, we found a hawksbill turtle, southern stingray, sargassum triggerfish, lobsters, eels, yellow headed jawfish, a school of jacks, lots of grouper and barracuda.

Dive Sites: Zip Line & Long Caye Wall

We were very lucky to find a frogfish at Zipline on the sand. Its always a lucky and exciting find, but it wasnt the only cool thing. We also saw another huge Eagle Ray, some lobsters, neck crab, flamingo, lionfish, and a hawksbill. We then made our way to Lighthouse Reef and hopped in at Long Caye Wall for the afternoon and night dives. We got to see a juvenile Caribbean Reef shark, 2 turtles (one was feeding on a sponge on the side of wall), several eels, harlequin pipefish, mating indigo hamlets, pair of neck crabs, and skeleton shrimp.

Tues Mar 3, 2015

Dive Sites: Blue Hole & Half Moon Caye Wall

Though the Blue Hole is not known for its marine life, we did see a Caribbean Reef Shark cruising along the rim of above us as we dropped down to the depths to explore the massive stalactite formations. We saw more sharks at Half Moon Caye Wall as well, as many as four were swimming lazily along the wall. Also on the wall we found a spotted drum, fire worm, Nassau groupers, and barracuda. In the shallows over the sand and grass beds, we came across several sting rays being followed by bar jacks. There were razorfish all around and we found a pair of flounders. Looking closely through the grass beds we were excited to find a lancer dragonette, mating flapping dingbats, pipefish, and a pair of pipehorse, one was pregnant.

Dive Sites: Long Caye Ridge, Silver Cave, & Eel Town

We had another exciting day of diving at Long Caye Ridge, Silver Cave, and Eel town. A huge Loggerhead turtle made his way along the top of the reef. We saw a hawksbill feeding, sharks cruising down below, and a swimming moray hunting in the reef. We also found some little critters, neck crabs and skeleton shrimps, as well as lobsters, scrawled filefish, and a school of jacks.

Dive Sites: Hat Caye Wall & Nurse Shark Ridge

Hat Caye Wall has some amazing sponges and a beautiful drop-off. It is also inhabited by lots of colourful reef fish. We had a couple very relaxing dives in this beautiful underwater garden. It got a little more exciting at Nurse Shark Ridge, as the sharks, turtles, rays, and eels made their appearance. The visibility was limitless as well. We also found some decorator crabs, lots of cleaning stations, wire coral shrimp, and tons of blennies.

Dive Sites: Sandy Slope

We ended up back at Sandy Slope after doing our crossing from Lighthouse Reef to Turneffe. Fridays we start off with a pre-breakfast dive and then finish off the week with one more dive after breakfast before heading back to the dock. On this mornings dives we saw several lobsters, a free swimming green moray, cleaning stations, saw jawfish peak out of their holes, and just watched as the reef and marine life woke up.

The final dive of the week was a great way to send off our guests. We saw 3 Eagle Rays in formation as soon as we hopped in. We also got so see a free swimming moray, a hawksbill, lots of grouper, sargassum triggerfish, lobsters, and great coral formations.

Congrats to Joan and Esther on dive #100! And congrats to our Iron Divers…Ehsan, Gabbi, Don, Ron, and Brad.

Hope to see you all again. Thank you for visiting us on the Belize Aggressor III. EAT, SLEEP, & DIVE!
