Thursday 11th June
Today is arrival day on board the Komodo Dancer. We have guests from USA, Singapore, UK, Germany, Australia and Russia. We enjoyed a great dinner together and in the early hours of the morning we made the 4 hour crossing to Padang Bay.
Friday 12th June
We began our day with a check out dive at Jepun Reef in Padang Bay. Highlights included ornate ghostpipe fish, cuttlefish, hairy squat lobsters and ribbon eels.
After our second breakfast we geared up to dive Gilitepekong. A reef often frequented by mola mola. Sadly luck was not with us today. Highlights included nudibranchs, cuttlefish and schooling oriental sweetlips.
We then pulled up anchor and made the long crossing to Moyo Island.
Saturday 13th June
We arrived at Moyo Island just in time for our first dive. We dove Angel Reef an incredible wall with exquisite corals. A site full of colour and a wide variety of marine life.
After a hearty second breakfast it was time to dive Long Reef. A fabulous seamount running parallel to the shore. Once again as well as fantastic corals highlights included black tip reef sharks, hawksbill turtles and a large banded sea snake.
We then continued moving east heading for Satonda Island. We made it just in time for our third dive of the day at West Point. Once again this is a site with a great diversity of corals. Highlights included octopus, cuttlefish, black tip reef sharks and Hawksbill turtles.
As we geared up for our night dive we watched thousands of Flying Foxes leaving Satonda Island and heading for the larger Island of Sumbawa in search of food. Highlights of our night dive included stargazers, bobtail squid, bigfin reef squid and a variety of crustaceans.
Sunday 14th June
Once again we travelled all evening arriving in Bima just in time for our first dive of the day. We began the day diving Tanjung Sai. An incredibly pretty site with a sandy bottom and patches of coral bushes and soft corals. Highlights included frogfish, nudibranchs and a Napoleon Snake eel hunting in the sand.
We then moved further into the bay and dived Fuzzy Bottom 1 and 2. Great sites for muck diving enthusiasts. Highlights included Thorny seahorses, nudibranchs, snake eels, wunderpus and Dragon sea moths.
Our night dive was at Fuzzy Bottom 1 a site that really comes alive at night. Highlights included thorny seahorses, oriental slipper lobsters, zebra crabs, and Dragon sea moth and white-v octopus.
Monday 15th June
In the early hours of the morning we made the crossing to Sangeang Volcano. The location of our first two dives. Both dives were on the signature site of the area known as Hot Rocks. A truly unique site with sulphur bubbles coming out of the ground. Highlights included pygmy seahorses, nudibranchs, mantis shrimps, coconut octopus and incredible corals.
We then headed for Banta Island the location of dives 3 and 4. Our third dive was at K2. Crystal clear warm water welcomed us to the depths of the ocean. Astounding corals, big fin reef squid and leaf scorpion fish were most peoples highlights.
Our night dive was at Circus an action packed dive. Highlights included stargazers, bobtail squid, giant mantis shrimp, stonefish, tiger shrimp and spiny devil fish.
Tuesday 16th June
We spent the day diving around the island of Gili Lawa Laut. Our first two dives were at Castle Rock and Crystal Rock. Both fantastic pinnacle dives that are full of life. Highlights included huge schools of snappers, Trevally, oriental sweet lips and banner fish. We also saw many white tip reef sharks, hawksbill turtles and a Bamboo shark.
After lunch it was time to dive Lighthouse Reef. A great reef slope also full of life and colour. Highlights included white tip reef sharks, leaf scorpion fish, hawksbill turtles and a juvenile banded sea snake.
We then hiked to the top of Gili Lawa Darat and enjoyed a spectacular view of the Komodo National park and the setting sun.
It was then dive for our night dive at Spanish Steps. Highlights included a clown frogfish as well as a variety of nudibranchs and crustaceans.
Wednesday 17th June
We began our day diving Makasaar reef hoping to find mantas. We were successful everybody got close encounters with these graceful creatures. Added to this spotted eagle rays and green turtles were also found.
We then dived Batu Balong an incredible pinnacle dive with amazing corals. Highlights included large turtles, white tip reef sharks, Napoleon wrasse, octopus and giant morays to name a few.
After lunch it was time to dive Honeymoon Rock. Another pinnacle dive with beautiful corals. Focus was more on the macro with an incredible array of nudibranchs.
Our night dive at Wainilu was another success. Highlights included robust ghostpipe fish, ornate ghostpipe fish, zebra crabs, colemans shrimps and longfin squid.
Thursday 18th June
In the early hours of the morning we headed south to Langkoi. Our first two dives of the day at The Alley where once again we hoped to find Mantas. Our luck held and we enjoyed to magical dives with more mantas than we could count.
During lunch we headed north to Padar Island the location of our next dive. We dived W Reef which is made up of 3 submerged pinnacles. A strong current made for some difficult diving but we all surfaced with smiles on our faces.
We then visited the Pink Beach on Padar Island and enjoyed an incredible sunset together. It was the time for our night dive. Highlights included Warty Frogfish, Clown Frogfish, Bobtail squid and Longfin Squid.
Friday 19th June
In the early hours of the morning we moved to Nusakode (Horseshoe Bay) situated on the south of Rinja Island. We began our day diving Pelican Head a beautiful wall dive full of nudibranchs.
We then dived Cannibal Rock an equisite seamount full of life and colour. Highlights included nudibranchs, zebra crabs and bamboo sharks.
We then visited the Komodo Dragons on the beach for an incredible photographic experience. It was then time to move back to Padar Island for our dive at Secret Garden.
Our final night dive was at Pusir Putih. Highlights included wart frogfish, bobtail squid and decorator crabs.
Saturday 20th June
We began our day back in the north diving a site known as Tatawa Besaar. A great drift dive with incredible corals. Highlights included cuttlefish, leaf scorpion fish and hawksbill turtles.
It was then time for our final dive of the trip at Batu Balong. An incredible pinnacle dive and a firm favourite of both guests and crew. Highlights included white tip reef sharks, Napoleon wrasse, giant morays, large hawksbill turtles, Giant Trevally, Octopus and so much more.
During lunch we moved to the north of Rinja Island to enjoy the official dragon trekking tour.
It was then time to hoist the sails and slowly make our way back to the port of Labuan Bajo. All that is left is our cocktail party and final dinner. Sadly the trip has come to an end but a wonderful time has been enjoyed by all.
