Tuesday 14th July
Arrival day on board the Komodo Dancer and with great excitement we welcomed 14 new guests. We have guests from Germany, Canada, Netherlands, USA, Nigeria, and Estonia.
Wednesday 15th July
We began our day diving close to an island known as Gili Lawa Darat. A great site for our check out dive. Calm, clear and warm water greeted us. Incredible corals with highlights of hawksbill turtles, pygmy seahorses and leaf scorpion fish.
We then moved to Tatawa Besaar another incredible reef slope full of life.
After lunch we dived at Honeymoon Rock and faced our first moderate current of the trip. Highlights included Giant trevally, white tip reef sharks, hawksbill turtles and nudibranchs.
Our night dive at Wainilu had everybody very excited. Highlights included various frogfish, octopus, spiny devil fish, sea snakes, morays and a variety of nudis.
Thursday 16th July
We began our day diving Batu Balong. An incredible pinnacle with schooling anthias, fuseliers and giant trevally. Other highlights included white tip reef sharks, Napoleon wrasse, large hawksbill turtles and a banded sea snake.
It was then time to dive Makasaar Reef where we hoped to find mantas. Luck was with us and all 3 groups enjoyed sightings of mantas.
Our third dive of the day was at Siaba Kecil. A beautiful reef slopes. Highlights included spotted eagle ray, bamboo shark and hawksbill turtles.
Our night dive at Sebayor was also highly productive. Highlights included spiny devil fish, mantis shrimps, crocodile fish, longfin squid and numerous carrier and decorator crabs.
Friday 17th July
We began our day diving both Castle Rock and Crystal Rock. Two incredible pinnacle dives. Highlights included white tip reef sharks, napoleon wrasse, pygmy seahorses, giant trevally and free swimming morays.
After lunch it was time to dive Shotgun. A great drift between the islands of Gili Lawa Laut and Gili Lawa Darat. Highlights included mantas, white tip reef sharks and 12 leaf scorpion fish (white, green and purple)
We then hiked to the top of Gili Lawa Darat and enjoyed a spectacular view of the Komodo National Park.
It was then time for our night dive. Highlights included flatworms, nudibranchs, carrier and decorator crabs as well as an enormous Spanish Dancer.
Saturday, 18th July
In the early hours of the morning we made the crossing west to Banta Island the location of todays diving. We began diving at a site known as The Corner. A reef slope with amazing corals. Highlights included mantas, white tip reef sharks and huge schools of fusiliers.
After second breakfast it was time to dive Rollercoaster. An incredible wall over flowing with life. Highlights included pygmy seahorses, hawksbill turtles as well as schooling anthias, unicorn fish and surgeon fish.
Our third dive of the day was at K2. A wonderful site with highlights of frogfish, leaf scorpion fish and various nudibranchs.
Our night dive at Circus is always a popular dive. Highlights included stargazers, big fin reef squid, bobtail squid and free swimming morays.
Sunday 19th July
We began our day diving Castle Rock and Crystal Rock. A fantastic morning diving with highlights being 6 grey reef sharks( with us for 35 minutes) , many white tip reef sharks, napoleon wrasse, spotted eagle ray, and large schools of a variety of trevally.
After lunch it was time to dive Lighthouse Reef an incredibly beautiful reef slope full of life. Highlights included white tip reef sharks, hawksbill turtles and leaf scorpion fish.
Our night dive was at Komodo Slope. Highlights included cuttlefish, bobtail squid and a variety of nudibranchs, carrier and decorator crabs.
Monday 20th July
We began our day diving GLD passage a great little drift dive between Komodo Island and Gili Lawa Darat. Highlights included amazing corals, hawksbill turtles, leaf scorpion fish and a large variety of reef fish.
Our final dive of the trip was at Batu Balong. An incredible pinnacle with highlights of octopus, napoleon wrasse, white tip reef sharks, banded sea snakes and so much more.
During lunch we headed to the north of Rinja for our official dragon trekking. A great hike with sightings of Komodo Dragons, deer, wild pigs and monkeys.
It was then time to return to the boat and head back to Labuan Bajo. Guests enjoyed a farewell cocktail party and a final dinner together before departing the boat tomorrow.
