Dive Site: Sandy Slope (Turneffe Atoll)

It’s always pretty cool when on the first dive of the week you find a seahorse in the first 5 minutes. Today we saw 2 seahorses, pipefish, and pipehorses. We also saw lobsters, big groupers, several barracudas, Eagle Ray, baby reef shark, spotted and green morays, yellow headed jawfish (one with eggs), stingrays, and trumpetfish.

Dive Sites: Julie’s Jungle & Long Caye Wall (Lighthouse Reef Atoll)

After motoring from Turneffe the night before, we woke up at Lighthouse Reef to start the day of diving at Julie’s Jungle. Today started a trend of turtle spotting which continued for the entire week. One of the first things we saw today was a gorgeous Hawksbill turtle feeding along the wall. There were also beautiful Indigo hamlets, honey-comb cowfish, and lots of 4 eyed butterfly fish. There were also some very impressive and massive sponges. There were numerous Eagle Ray sightings, more turtles, numerous trumpetfish, filefish, sting rays, triggerfish, and tarpon, a school of horse-eye jacks, juvenile spotted drum, great barracudas, lobsters, and lionfish.

Dive Sites: Blue Hole & Half Moon Caye Wall

Today we visited the Great Blue Hole Natural Monument to look at massive stalactite formations. After descending to the depths below, we spent some time checking out Queen Angelfish, Blennies, baby lobster, pufferfish, gobies, and spaghetti worms.

After the dive we went to check out the Red-footed booby bird sanctuary over on Half Moon Caye. Then we went diving! At Half Moon Caye wall, we saw 4 Caribbean Reef sharks, ocean triggerfish, Eagle rays, baby trumpetfish, sail-fin blennies, hermit crabs, razorfish, garden eels, pipehorses, hawksbill and loggerhead turtles, and a string of pelagic tunicates.

Dive Sites: “X” site & Painted Wall

On our dives today we explored “X” site before heading to Painted wall. There were a lot of Black and Nassau groupers on this site. We also found a lot of lobster, tiger tail sea cucumber, free swimming green moray, a friendly hawksbill turtle, lots of squirrel fish, gray Angelfish, school of bar jacks, school of Creole wrasse, stingrays, flamingo tongues, lettuce sea slug, and lots of neck crabs.

We were also surrounded by Bermuda chubs and Sergeant majors, saw an Eagle Ray in the shallows, white spotted file fish, more eels, and of course more friendly hawksbills.

Dive Sites: Chain Wall & Silver Cave

Chain wall and Silver Cave gave us some pretty amazing dives. We had some awesome encounters with Caribbean reef shark and swam along with “tame” groupers and a very old looking and gigantic loggerhead.

There was an abundance of trunkfish at Silver Cave, we counted 44 in 3 different groups. We also saw some lobster, pufferfish, trumpetfish in its yellow phase, free swimming green moray, tobacco fish, black durgeon, file fish, large channel clinging crab, and a big seahorse.

Dive Site: Long Caye Ridge

The dives finished off with more turtles. We also saw a Caribbean Reef shark right below the boat as soon as we dropped down. We found at least 2 dozen neck crabs, and saw lots of barracuda and Creole wrasse.

Congrats to Meredith and Mark on completing their SSI EAN class.

Congrats to Gina on her 200th dive.

And congrats to our IRON DIVERS – Val, Everett, Dimitri Claudio, Nick, and Vanda.

Thank you all for a great week! See you again soon!
