This week we happily & eagerly greeted our new family members from USA , Canada , Switzerland , Nigeria and Thailand . a total of 14 guests on board including Nic and Trisha , the future cruise directors of Sri Lanka Aggressor. After a welcome drink and being showed to their cabins everyone gathered in the dining area for the general boat briefing and introduction of the crew , while munching on our chefs exquisite mini pizzas and assortment of seasonal fruit . After setting up equipment and finishing some paperwork, they were free to visit the very mystical Port Ghalib at sunset hours. After our steak dinner it was time for a glass of local wine & off to bed.
Sunday 13th of March
Day 1 started in Port Ghaleb and continued in Marsa Shoona and Shaab Abu Dabab . Ring bells at 7 am on our first day of diving . Sun shines in Port Ghalib and at 8:30 am we are and ready to leave the harbor and starting the southern itinerary on the Red Sea Aggressor .
Marsa shoona is the first destination of our diving trip . Visibility is outstanding . A boat to boat dive to check buoyancy and diving equipment . A beautiful garden . Healthy and colorful fire corals, lion and pipe fishes , school of goat fishes and masked butterfly fishes , blue spotted stingrays and puffer fishes . After the dive we sail to Shaab Abu Dabab . Beautiful coral garden composed by huge mountain corals and shallow swimthroughs are the main location of the afternoon dives . The night dive offer us the chance to spot different kinds of shrimps and crabs . Time for dinner and we are ready to sail southern and reach the remote and pristine reefs of Daedalus reef . We score 4 dives.
Monday 14th of March
Day 2 started in Daedalus Reef . We sail all night to reach the offshore reef of Daedalus, 50 miles away from the coastline of El Quseir . Sky is crystal clear , wind is absent and sea is completely flat . A perfect day for diving. The early morning dive is located in the North Plateau. It is a zodiac to zodiac dive . We descent along the wall . A silky shark and a hammerhead shark suddenly appear in the blue . Visbility is outstanding . We continued the dive along the diving wall, rich in marine life and extremely healthy with colorful corals. Time for a hot breakfast and the second dive of the day is a drift dive along the west wall . A beautiful overhangs with thousands of glassfishes is the spot of the dive . at 12 pm it is time for lunch . The third and fourth dive are located on the south plateau . Torpedo rays and a large school of black snapper , a wall covered in broccoli soft corals and a large variety of hard corals . The elephant coral outstands. It becomes the main attraction of the dive . A large and monumental roof shape starting at a depth of 15 ft and descending until 60 feet. We score 4 dives.
Tuesday 15th March
Day 3 started in Gota Soraya and continued in Paradise Reef and St. John’s Cave . We sail all night to reach the offshore reefs of St. John’s . Wind blows at 14 nods but diving conditions are still accessible in Gota soraya . The early morning dive is a boat to boat dive along his drop off walls. A grey reef sharks swim wildly 20 ft below us , a turtle is busy eating a bunch of soft corals . At a shallow depth we explore la arge overhang and swim-through filled with purple and white soft corals , branches of black corals and beautiful lights reflections on every coral .Time for a hot breakfast and we anchor in Paradise reef . A boat to boat dive . Spot of the dive : A couple of anemomes which sit on the top of a tall and rich pinnacle . We explore a large swim-trough and we spot a couple of sea slugs and blue spotted stingrays. Time for lunch and we reach the famous reefs of St. John’s Cave . The local Napoleon wrasse delight us with his appearance and curious attitude . We continued the dive exploring the beautiful overhangs and caves of the reef . Sea Fans and thick and colourful soft corals. We score 4 dives including a night dive .
Wednesday 16th of March
Day 4 started in Shaab Maksur and continued in Shaab Claudia and Sataya reef . The early morning dive is located in Shaab Maksur. A boat to boat dive . We descend into the south plateau ; we reach the edge and face the blue , we turn until we meet those two large , beautiful and monumental pinnacles of corals . They are higly covered in soft corals , all surrounded by clouds of anthias , black and red sea groupers . A scorpion fish lcamouflage just on the top . We admire cracks and holes filled with black and fan corals. Time for a hot breakfast and we anchor in Shaab Claudia . A napoleon wrasse hover in mid water just before we enter the swim-through and cathedral of light which make Shaab Claudia famous worldwide . Crystal clear visibility and brightful ray of lights which penetrate from the cracks of the reef . School of burgundy soldier fishes and blue spotted stingrays . It is time for lunch and reach the reef of Sataya . A squat of 20 white stripes dolphin wander in shallow water just inside the bay . We enter the water with mask , fins and snorkels and we spent 45 min swimming with them . The late afternoon and night dive are located in the south side of Sataya reef and the dives are dedicated to tour a couple of tall and colourful pinnacles . We spot a couple of sea slugs including the pretty Pijama chromodoris.
Thursday 17th of March
Day 5 started in Shaab Sharm .
Ring bells at 6 am and we anchor in the large and outstanding offshore reef of Shaab Sharm , 30 miles away from the city of Marsa Alam . The first dive is a zodiac to boat dive along the east wall and south plateau of the reef . We descent along the wall and gently drift along his sides while contemplating giant fan corals , purple and lavender soft corals. 2 grey reef sharks appear in the blue . We finally land in the south plateau . A white tip reef shark , a giant murein and a
tiny clown fish are also spotted at a shallow depth . The second dive is a boat to boat dive along the east wall . We slowly descend just below the boat and reach the drop off wall . The wall hosts a large variety of hard corals , schools of banner red sea and black snappers , red sea groupers , a giant murein and a couple of sea slugs . Time for lunch and we sail to Gota Marsa Alam . The afternoon and night dive are located in the south side of Gota Marsa alam with his colorful pinnacles of corals standing from the sandy bottom almost reaching the surface.
Friday 18th of March
Day 6 started in Elphinstone Reef . Early in the morning we reach the offshore reef of Elphinstone , 5 miles away from the coastline of Marsa Alam . Wind blows at 10 nods and sun rises at 6 am . We plan the early morning dive on the South plateau and east wall of the reef . Visibility is crystal clear . We descent along the plateau . A beautiful scenery with colorful soft and hard corals , clouds of anthias . A school of sardines is haunted by a squat of giant trevallies . A giant napoleon wrasse appear from the deep blue accompanied by a yellow fin trevally on his side . We continue the dive along the east wall until we reach the giant fan coral with his long term guest : the long nose hawkfish . A scorpion fish also lie and camouflage in shallow waters . Tme for a hot breakfast and we sail to Marsa Mubarak . It is time for our last dive . A large school of unicorn fishes , a crocodile fish and we enjoy a and a beautiful garden of corals and overhangs. Time for lunch and we sail back to Port Ghalib . At 6pm a cocktail party starts to celebrate our Iron Divers , Milestone awards and 3 Ntrox certifications .
