Sunday 24th May

Today is arrival day on board the Indo Aggressor and with great excitement we welcomed 16 guests from the USA, Switzerland, UK and Argentina. Due to late arrival sadly we did not have time to dive but we headed to the north of the park to GLD and enjoyed getting to know one another. After a wonderful dinner we enjoyed the trip video from our last cruise to create4 some excitement.

Monday 25th May

With great excitement we woke up and prepared for our check dive. Our first dive of the trip was in GLD Bay. Amazing hard corals on a gentle slope with highlights including broadclub cuttlefish, nudibranchs, green turtles, hawksbill turtles and an octopus.

We then moved slightly south into Current City in order to dive Makasaar in the hope of finding mantas. Luck was with us and every diver had a personal experience with these graceful creatures.

We then moved to Tatawa Besaar for our third dive of the day. A great drift dive along a reef slope. The coral diversity is incredible on this site and highlights included black tip reef sharks, crocodile fish, hawksbill turtles spade fish, spotted sweetlips and oriental sweetlips.

We then moved back to GLD for our night dive at Spanish Steps. Named due to the amount of Spanish Dancers that reside on the site and we found a record 17 Spanish dancers as well as a wide array of nudibranchs, big fin reef squid, carrier crabs and decorator crabs.

Tuesday 26th May

We headed west out of the National Park arriving at Sangeang Volcano just in time to dive. Our first two dives were on the signature dive site of the area Hot Rocks. A very special site where sulphur bubbles bubble up from the black sand. Highlights included pygmy seahorses, many different nudibranchs, flatworms, flying gurnards and mantis shrimps.

Our second dive was at Techno another great macro site. Highlights included pygmy seahorses, leaf scorpionfish, many juvenile broadclub cuttlefish, painted frogfish, octopus and many different nudibranchs.

We then moved and did our third dive at Bontoh Village. Highlights included painted frogfish, cuttlefish, Jenkins Rays, octopus, nudibranchs and a black tip reef shark.

We then visited the island and the local village where a ship is under construction. As well as inspecting the craftsmanship of the boat it was a chance for guests to see just how the locals lift which can be a rather humbling experience.

Our night dive was at Bontoh Village highlights included mosaic boxer crab, nudibranchs, frogfish, cuttlefish as well as hunting morays.

Wednesday 27th May

In the early hours we headed to Banta Island the location of today’s diving. We began our day diving West Point. A healthy reef slope where highlights included many mantas, crocodile fish and banded sea snakes.

Our second dive was at Rollercoaster where we had a bit of current to contend with. Highlights included an incredible diversity of corals, mating Big fin reef squid, octopus and large schools of jacks and giant trevally.

Our third dive was at K2 once again we had some current to deal with. Highlights included bumblebee shrimp, nudibranchs, juvenile spotted sweetlips and juvenile barramundi.

Our night dive was at Circus a really exciting night dive. Highlights included stargazers, harlequin snake eels, bobtail squid, bigfin reef squid, strawberry nudibranchs and octopus.

Thursday 28th May

Last night we had moved the boat back to GLD. We began our day diving at GLL diving both Castle Rock and Crystal Rock. Two fantastic pinnacle dives where highlights included white tip reef sharks, Jacks, Napoleon Wrasse, Giant Trevally, spotted eagle ray and gray reef sharks.

Our third dive was at Lighthouse Reef. A pleasant dive on a beautiful reef slope. Highlights included leaf scorpion fish, hawksbill turtles, nudibranchs and porcelain crabs.

We then visited GLD and climbed to the top enjoying a panaromic view of the KNP.

Our night dive was at West side. Highlights included painted lobsters, sea hares, painted frogfish and Spanish Dancers.

Friday 29th May

We began our day diving Siaba another amazing site with awesome corals. Highlights included black and white tip reef sharks, napoleon wrasse, frogfish and many hawksbill turtles

We then moved to an incredible site Batu Balong. A great pinnacle overflowing with life. Massive schools of anthias, fusiliers and giant trevally as well as mating octopus, large hawksbill turtles, white tip reef sharks and Napoleon wrasse to name but a few.

Our third dive was at Honeymoon Rock another pinnacle dive. Highlights included nudibranchs, bumphead parrot fish, bat fish, giant moray and orangutan crabs.

Our night dive was at Wainilu an incredible muck diving site. Highlights included Spanish Dancer, Frogfish, Strawberry nudibranchs, zebra crab, starry night octopus, spearing mantis shrimp and crocodile fish.

Saturday 30th May

We began our day diving at Padar Island on a site known as Secret Garden. Full off incredible soft corals highlights included mantis shrimp, banded sea snakes, warty frogfish, giant frogfish and nudibranchs.

Our second dive was at W Reef. Three incredible seamounts where highlights included giant frogfish, pygmy seahorses, white tip reef shark, coral cat shark and giant trevally.

Our third dive was at Pusir Putih highlights included giant frogfish, stonefish, banded pipefish and nudibranchs.

We then had a land excursion to Padar Island and visited the Pink Beach.

Our night dive was back at Pusir Putih highlights included starry night octopus, giant frogfish, twin spotted lionfish, bobtail squid and many free swimming morays.

Sunday 1st May

In the early hours we headed to the far south of Komodo Island to dive a place known as Langkoi where we hoped to find mantas. We did three dives at Langkoi and had unbelievable experiences with mantas over and over again. Other highlights included bumphead parrot fish, napoleon wrasse, white tip reef sharks and hawksbill turtles.

We then moved to Lahsera and did our night dive on the phinnissi wreck. Highlights included strawberry nudibranchs, Spanish dancers, scorpionfish and hawksbill turtles.

Monday 2nd May

In the early hours we headed east to the south of Rinja Island. We spent the day diving at Horse shoe Bay. Dive number one was at the signature dive site of the area Cannibal Rock, An amazing seamount full of corals of every colour. Highlights included painted frogfish, white tip reef sharks, giant trevally and a wide array of nudis.

Dive number two was at Pelican Head a fabulous wall dive full of life and colour. Highlights included warty frogfish, coleman’s shrimp, hawksbill turtles and pygmy seahorses.

Our third dive was at Yellow Wall another wonderful wall dive. Highlights included warty frogfish, coleman’s shrimp, napoleon wrasse, bumphead parrotfish and nudibranchs.

Our night dive was at Torpedo Alley. Highlights included bobtail squid, coconut octopus, white V octopus, juvenile painted frogfish, nudibranchs, and a juvenile torpedo ray.

Tuesday 3rd May

Overnight we moved from the far south of the park to the far north. We anchored at GLD and then moved to GLL for our first dive at Crystal Rock. Highlights included white tip reef sharks, napoleon wrasse, jacks, octopus and pygmy seahorses.

We then moved to Shotgun a great drift dive. Highlights included schooling red snapper, giant trevally, white tip reef sharks, cuttlefish, leaf scorpionfish and barracuda.

Our third dive was at GLD Passage another great little drift dive. Highlights included schooling jacks and barracuda as well as lots of white tip reef sharks, giant morays and giant trevally.

Our night dive was at Spanish Steps highlights included Spanish dancers, soft coral crabs, octopus, emperor shrimps, sea spiders, dwarf cuttlefish and slipper lobsters.

 

Wednesday 4th May

We began our day diving Batu Balong a spectaucular pinnacle dive with amazing corals. Highlights included schooling anthias, white tip reef sharks, hawksbill turtles, nudibranchs, giant trevally and giant morays too name but a few.

We then dived Makasaar hoping for a final encounter with mantas. Luck was with us and everybody got a final encounter with mantas before leaving Komodo.

We then moved to the north of Rinja for our official dragon trekking after which we hoisted the sails and headed for Labuan Bajo. Along the way we enjoyed a celebratory cocktail party followed by a final wonderful dinner together. Another wonderful trip with some truly special guests.
