This trip started a bit different, once our guests arrived we noticed they were a very special group of divers and friends, Club Ed Divers have been diving together for nearly 30 years!! Their energy and diving enthusiasm can only be matched by their friendship and joy to be on-board together. They are a beautiful diving family which made our week incredible.
We started as always with a welcome cocktail and started our 15 hour crossing to North Pacific of Costa Rica, Guanacaste.
This impressive coast is home to beautiful views of mountains and volcanoes in the horizon, we watched white sand beaches all along the coast while getting ready to dive, our guests were very excited to explore the underwater world in the area.
First day we spent on the Papagayo Bay, as soon as we entered the water, big schools of fish could be seen, this area is also full of different kinds of moray eels which hide between the rocks. Green sea turtles accompanied us during our first dives and we saw our first 6 white tip sharks lying next to a ship wreck! Next dives we saw Long Stingrays, lots of Octopus, a couple of beautiful Frog Fish and lots of schools of fish. We also found an orange Sea horse!
On the second day we sailed up North near the Nicaragua border to Cuajiniquil, here you can observe the beauty of the protected UNESCO World Heritage Site of Santa Rosa National Park and its green mountains and volcanoes on the horizon. Here we dove Coral Negro, a couple of incredible dive spots that are full of Black Coral, very special and difficult to find at the shallow depths of around 60 ft. Great variety of tropical reef fish and a lot of Sea Horses hide in the Corals. We saw more than 6 through-out the day!! Our guests helped us find a lot of them. Also large quantities of Octopus.
Day 3, 4 and 5 we move into the protected and amazing waters of the Bat Islands. Here is where the big stuff starts to show! First we dove the Big Scare, famous for its Bull sharks coming in to mate and get cleaned by small butterfly fish. We saw 3 or 4 of these magnificent and powerful sharks on each dive. Our guests kept busy looking for shark teeth in the sand which are easy to find in this site. On the back site of this island called San Pedrillo, we had an amazing encounter with a Giant Oceanic Manta which stayed for 10 minutes close by while being cleaned.
We did some excellent night dives in the black coral full of life and beautiful colors, and in Punta Pochote where we found a lot of jacks hunting, small nudibranchs and a couple of Octopus mating!
Our dives in this lively area where always surrounded by large schools of Spadefish, Grunts and Jacks. Lots of round southern Sting rays and long tail rays, turtles, white tip reef sharks and a lot of Nurse Sharks! The topography in some of these spots is amazing, with large pinnacles and arches to swim through on the volcanic rock formations.
Last day we had 2 easy dives in the Catalina Islands, perfect for our goodbye to the area. Large schools of fish and macro life on the colorful reefs of the area.
We had an excellent time with these group as they did their parties at night after the delicious dinners. Definitely one of the liveliest group we have had in years! Hope to have you guys back!
