Saturday February 21st
This week we welcomed aboard a Group from Canada on the Kona Aggressor ll. We picked everyone up from the Kona Pier Saturday evening and headed out to the mooring for dinner and a briefing. We came up with a plan for the week and headed to bed so we could be bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning!
Sunday February 22nd
Early in the morning the Kona Aggressor ll headed north to Kalokos Arches for our first two dives. Everyone did great during their check out dive and saw Dragon Wrasse, Yellow Tail Corris, Tiger Snake Moray, and Rock Mover Wrasse while weaving through the arch ways. The highlight of the second dive was playing with two Octopuses and watching an Eagle Ray glide by. Next, we headed to Garden Eel Cove for the last three dives of the day. During the first two dives the highlights were listening to a whale song while watching Garden Eels in the sand and White Sided Razor Wrasse dart about the sand. During the night dive they got a great show put on by the Mantas and Frank, the Undulated Moray Eel, visited a guest.
Monday February 23rd
After spending a nice night on our mooring in Kona we headed south to Driftwood for the first dive of the day. The group enjoyed swimming through the lava tube and finding a sleepy White Tip Reef Shark and a Green Turtle by one of the caves. The next dive spot was Ridges where the talk on the dive deck was of seeing Speckled Scorpion Fish, Undulated Moray, Fried Egg Nudibranch, and a Turtle. After a nice lunch prepared by Chef Mike we arrived at Lions Den for dive number three. What our guests remembered the most was seeing Long nose Butterfly Fish (Black Phase), Speckled Scorpion Fish, Fried Egg Nudibranch, Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse, Fried Egg Nudibranch and a Turtle. Next, we headed south to The Hive. During the dives our guests saw Dragon Wrasse, Undulated Moray, Flat Rock Reef Crab and an Eagle Ray. During the night dive they saw Sculptured Slipper Lobster, Red Reef Lobster, Conger Eels, Decoy Scorpion Fish, Red Lion Fish, and a White Tip Reef Shark in the cave!
Tuesday February 24th
After a good nights sleep we headed further south to Peles Playground for our first two dives. The highlights were Moray Eels, Spanish Rose, Long Handed Lobster, Red Lion Fish, and a friendly Turtle. Next, we headed south to Catacombs where we saw a Vyper Moray, two Commersons Frog Fish, Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse, Hawaiian Hog Fish. Spotted and Stripe Belly Puffer Fish and a Tiger Snake Moray. Next, we headed to Manuka Bay for the rest of the day. During dive four or guests remembered seeing Yellow Margin Moray, Dragon Wrasse, and a Leaf Scorpion Fish. On the night dive it was all kinds of Eels, Decoy Scorpion Fish, Speckled Scorpion Fish, Puffer, and a Horned Helmet eat a Collector Urchin.
Wednesday February 25th
The Kona Aggressor ll began her journey back north to the Land of Oz. The guests recalled seeing Puffer Fish, Octopus, Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse, Domino Damsels Chirping, and a Green Turtle. Next, we headed further north to Au Au Crater for the third dive of the day. Our guests were lucky enough to see Bandit Angel Fish, Red Lion Fish, Tear Drop Butter Fly Fish, and a Green Turtle! The Kona Aggressor ll moved North to Robs Reef for the last two dives of the day. The highlights of the fourth dive were a Conger Eel being cleaned by a White Striped Cleaner Shrimp and a Turtle. On the night dive they saw all kinds of Shrimp and Eels.
Thursday February 26th
Thursday we moved to Paradise Pinnacle for the first two dives of the day. The talk on the dive deck after the dives was of seeing Spotted Box Fish, Dragon Wrasse, Long Nose Hawk Fish, Peacock Razor Wrasse and Red Lion Fish. During lunch we moved north to Amphitheater for the third dive. What are guest liked most on the dive was swimming through the Lave Tubes and running across the occasional free swimming Eel or Puffer Fish. Next, we Headed to Manta Ville where our guest remembered seeing Spotted Box Fish. Yellow Margin Moray, Porcupine Puffer Fish, and a school of Racoon Butterfly Fish. For the night dive the group voted for Pelagic Magic and recalled seeing Venus Girdles, Mantis Shrimp, and Pelagic Wing Combed Jellies.
Friday February 27th
Turtle Pinnacle was the location of dive number one and it started off with a bang. We had a Humpback escort to the dive site and when we got there a couple of guests got to swim with Spinner Dolphins. During the dive they saw Red Striped Pipe Fish, Schools of Domino Damsels, and Goat Fish. For the last dive of the week we headed to Old Airport. The group was lucky and got to play with a day Octopus and finished the dive with a curious Manta!
Saturday February 28th
We dropped our guests off at the pier in Kona and said our farewells to our new Canadian friends this week. Congratulations to our Iron Divers; Sue, Ellen, Jane, and Claudia. Thanks again for joining us this week aboard the Kona Aggressor ll. We hope to see you again soon!
