Raja Ampat Aggressor Charter Report

Early morning we had our first transfers from airport. Some of our guests arrived the day before and were picked up at noon at the Swiss Bell and Marina Memberamo Hotels in Sorong. Four guests joined us for their second trip from the previous week. We were happy to see the familiar faces of Vladimir, Igor, Albert and Captain Wayne. Early afternoon we had all our guests on board, had lunch and departure for diving spots in Raja Ampat. On the way Captain Wayne did a safety briefing, dinner was served and we arrived to our 1st destination Friwinbonda for a good night rest.
The day started as usual with quick continental breakfast and diving briefing. After the briefing we had our 2 groups of divers in the tenders and ready to go. Our check dive at Friwinbonda was very good. We had no current and we started our dive at wall covered with hard corals. Behind the wall colourful slope covered with hard and soft coral appeared. At the beginning we saw many colourful flatworms, sweetlips fish, spade fish, big eye soldier fish and beautiful cuttlefish (Sepia). All our divers had enjoyable, safety dive and we were warmly welcomed back on board by our crew.
After hot breakfast we had hour of break. We rang the bell for second dive and were happy to see all divers on time and ready. We had also warm snacks for our guests before the dive. We started our dive at Blue Magic. Beautiful dive site with many schools of fish. We saw: 2 Wobbegong sharks, big grey Reef shark, schools of sweetlips fish, barracudas, tunas, big school of jackfish and a lot of glass fish below big boomies. Soft and hard corals were covering slopes and we could see a great number of small coral colourful fish. Water was very clear with visibility reaching 25 meters/ 75 feet.
When we went back from second dive lunch was ready and we could rest a bit before third dive. Our dive was at the place called Mioskon. Small Island with beautiful white sand beach where we could see a lot of bats sleeping on high trees on the Island. The dive was very good. We started the dive against the current and after 10 min. drifted with it. We saw wobbegong shark sleeping on a table coral, school of sweetlips fish and some macro creatures like nudibranch and orang-utan crab. Visibility was reaching 20 meters/ 60 feet.
After dinner we had a great presentation from Captin Wayne Hasson about Cuba. After presentation our guests went for a night dive. We spotted many interesting creatures: Nudibranch, crabs and many different types of shrimps. It was a great day of interesting diving.
We moved Raja Ampat Aggresor to the west to beautiful place called Yanageffo . We had very good conditions on the sea. Flat water and no wind made our relocation very easy. After breakfast we were getting ready for our first dive at place called Citrus Ridge. Great dive site with slopes covered with citrus colour soft corals and sandy bottom. We drifted with the current during whole dive. We saw a black tip shark, sweetlips fish, spades fish and many macro: nudibranch, pipe fish, commensal shrimp and small frogfish. Visibility was the same as last week 15 m/45 feet.
After hot breakfast and an hour rest, we started prepare for a dive. Second dive we went to Mayhem. Amazing dive site: underwater seamount with slopes covered with many hard corals and soft corals reaching 25m./75feet. We spotted school of barracudas, school of spade fish, big, many nudibranch and beautiful pipe fish.
Third dive was at Mangrove Ridge, beautiful and full of life dive site. Our guests could see many interesting marine life: eagle ray, sea snake, group of bumphead parrotfish and some macro creatures: mantis shrimp and solar nudibranch. Dive site was full of white corals and big sea fans. It was great to see big smiles on our guests faces and satisfaction from diving.
After dinner and presentation about Aggressor Fleet. Some of our guests went for a night dive and other enjoyed their time in the salon watching movie about freediving. We went for a dive to Citrus Ridge. Our divers saw wobbegong shark, tiny cuttlefish, squids and solar nudibranch. Everyone was very satisfied. We had a great day of diving behind us.
Early in the morning we moved Raja Ampat Aggressor to Penemu Island. Our first dive was at Meillisa’s Garden. Dive site full of corals with sloping area and sandy bottom. It was our best dive so far. We saw 5 wobbegong sharks, Juvenile Batfish and big school of Baraccudas not mentioning huge number of fusiliers fish in the blue and thousands of colourful reef fish.
Second dive we dove at Keruo Channel after breakfast. Drift dive with amazing huge boomies, white corals, sea fans and many table corals. We saw hawksbill turtle, group of spade fish and sweetlips fish, many small colourful fish with great visibility reaching 30m/66 feet. Dive was very good and we had perfect conditions: sunny weather and no waves.
After lunch and rest we split our guests to two groups. Some of our guests went for a land tour and some went diving. Land tour was to climb 302 stairs up to the peak of a hill to see breath taking view on Penemu Island and Star Lagoon with many small islands around. Divers enjoyed the dive very much too. After dinner Captain Wayne prepared presentation for us about sharks. Night dive we went to east side of Penemu Island. Our divers were very satisfied as they saw: blue ring octopus which is very rare species and very poisonous creature. They also saw squids, tiny cuttlefish and two big sea slugs. We had an amazing day full of great experiences.
Thursday August 27th
Day as usual started with continental breakfast and preparation for full day of diving. With charged cameras and enthusiasm we went for an exploration dive site called Galaxy. There was no much information about that place and we were amazed of its interesting terrain. Deep ridge covered with hard corals with a lot of life around. We saw big school of fusiliers, wobbegong shark, many various nudibranch, 2 big lobsters, black tip sharks, pigmy sea horse and much more. Visibility was worse than yesterday but still quite good reaching 15 m./50 feet.
After hot breakfast and short rest we were ready for our second dive called Barracuda. Dive site is an underwater seamount full of soft corals, big boomies with glass fish below and many beautiful hard corals. We saw very beautiful ornate, red hairy pipe fish ponto sea horse and many nudibranch. We had a little bit of a current so we drifted all the time down the colourful slope of Barracuda dive site. Visibility was around 15 m./50 feet and was good for macro photographers.
After lunch we went for a third dive to Melissa’s Garden but because of the waves we couldn’t stop there for anchorage. Instead we moved Aggressor to Keruo Island. We dove at Keruo Channel again and did a drift dive. Current wasn’t as strong as we expected. We had a slow drift down the beautiful slope of Keruo Island. We saw black tip sharks, school of surgeon fish, many groupers, group of spadefish and sweetlips fish.
During our dinner we prepared cake for our guests celebration. 32nd marriage anniversary of Kelley and Kristine. We also put a bottle of cold champagne to their stateroom and made them nice surprise. We went for a dive below Arborek Jetty. Very beautiful site with many macro creatures. We saw big mantis shrimp, walking shark, many shrimps and crabs. It was a great dive.
Friday- August 28th
Morning dive we did the same spot as yesterday night. Arborek jetty, one of the most incredible dive sites in north Raja Ampat, with great visibility and a lot of fish. Current was strong but we made our way slowly to the jetty. We followed the current down the colourful slope covered with hard and soft corals. We found school of bat fish, sweetlips fish, wobbegong shark and many other interesting fish.
After breakfast we went to Arborek village to give presents for local kids and made promotional video for Raja Ampat Aggressor. Second dive we planned to go to Manta Sandy but because of big waves and strong currents we had to move our boat to another place. We went north to …. Reef and it was an amazing dive. Clear water and a lot of fish made our guests really happy. We saw: ….
Third dive we did at Otdima. This time current was very slow and dive was easy and relaxing. Water kept very clear and we spotted many interesting fish: jackfish, sweetlips, spade fish and many other. Visibility was great and we had amazing dive.
We had our last dinner on board and night dive at Saonek village. Dive was good with no current. This time we saw: big sea slug, many shirmps and crabs.
Satuday August 29th
First morning dive we did at Cape Kri. Dive site with many schools of fish and sharks. We saw schools of: yellow fin barracudas, jack fish, giant trevallies, spade fish, sweetlips fish, giant sweetlips, black and grey reef sharks. Great dive and great visibility reaching 25 m/80 feet
Second dive we went to Sardine Reef. We found many reef sharks on the sandy bottom. There were also many schools of fish. After the dive our crew rinsed the gear and put it on sundeck for drying. We had a lunch and video of the week presentation. Before our farewell party we showed a slide show to our guests and enjoyed beautiful pictures from our week.
Before evening we started our party and we gave Awards to our guests. We had Iron Divers awards for Albert, Igor and Vladimir and Milestone Awards for Natascha, Julian and Franziska. We also thanked Captain Wayne for being with us during 2 last trips and teaching us a lot of important things related to being associated with Aggressor Fleet. It was a great week of diving. We went for a dinner with our guests and come back to boat for a last night before departure.
After breakfast all our guests were wrapped up and we were ready to say goodbye. Our crew assisted everyone to the cars, helped with their luggage and send guests to airport and hotels.
