This week’s group came down with Sharky’s Eco Diving from Southern California. Welcome aboard Diane, Angela, Pat, Jan, Lisa, Akili, Steven, Bill, Debbie, Justin, Steve, Veronica, Robin, Wally, Lori, Jesse, Catalina, and Tony.

The week started with an amazing and EXTREMELY rare sighting of what looked like a humpback whale breaching the surface. What a great treat! Though it would be hard to match a sighting like that, we had a great week of diving with awesome underwater encounters.

Sun Sept 13, 2015:

Sandy Slope & Long Caye Wall

The first dives of the week started at Sandy Slope at Turneffe Atoll. There were sightings of Peacock flounder, barracuda, friendly black groupers, sargassum trigger, huge hermit crabs, mud crabs, razor fish, jaw fish, Creole wrasse, and dolphins swam along with the vessel as we motored.

Mon Sept 14, 2015:

Julie’s Jungle & Long Caye Ridge

After a great first day of diving, we jumped in for more fun at Julie’s Jungle and Long Caye Ridge. There were lots of cool things to see on these dives, including Scorpion fish, massive sponges, green morays, tarpon, baby squid, octopus feeding, lettuce sea slugs, schools of jacks, permit, cleaning stations, and several Eagle rays.

Tues Sept 15, 2015

Painted Wall & Quebrada

Painted wall and Quebrada gave us some amazing and memorable dives with sightings of a small blacktip reef shark, an extremely friendly green moray, sergeant majors, blue chromis, indigo hamlets, Nurse Shark, eagle rays, and a sharp tail eel.

Wed Sept 16, 2015

Blue Hole, Half Moon Caye (island tour), & Silver CaveOn Wednesday we visited 2 World Heritage Sites: The Great Blue Hole and Half Moon Caye Natural Monument. For the first dive of the day we went down to explore the massive stalactite formations that hang at the depths below in the Blue Hole. After the dive, we went for an island excursion at Half Moon Caye Natural Monument, where we observed the nesting grounds for the white-phased Red-Footed Booby bird.

In the afternoon we went diving at Silver Caves to finish of an amazing day of diving with some very cool sightings of 2 Caribbean Reef sharks, a green moray sprawled out on top of the reef, a large eye toad fish, a lined seahorse, slipper lobsters, octopus, tarpon, nurse shark, and some neck crabs.

Thurs Sept 17, 2015

Chain Wall & Half Moon Caye wall

Thursday we had some exciting dives at Chain Wall and Half Moon Caye Wall. We had some cool encounters with a green turtle, pair of eagle rays, sharks on wall, sharks in shallows, and Nassau groupers. As we headed back to the boat we saw a peacock flounder, yellow headed jaw fish, pipe horses, several Southern stingrays, and tons of garden eels and razor fish.

Friday Sept 18, 2015

Front Porch & Black Beauty

We did 2 dives on our final day of diving on Turneffe Atoll. There were sightings of Green morays out swimming, Spotted morays, a rough tail stingray, nurse shark under coral head, a loggerhead turtle, several rainbow parrot fish, tons of bar jacks and horse-eye jacks, and 3 white spotted toad fish.
