15th – 22nd of October RSA Captains Log

The Northern Itinerary: Brothers Islands, Daedalus Reef & Elphinstone

Welcome Aboard! This week we happily & eagerly greeted our new family members from Usa, Uk, Denmark, Ukraine, Austria, China and Japan. A total of 20 guests on board including Bruce and Racy, John and Hiromi, which attended the last week Southern Itinerary Trip.

After a welcome drink and being showed to their cabins everyone gathered in the dining area for the general boat briefing and introduction of the crew, while munching on our chefs exquisite mini pizzas and assortment of seasonal fruit . After setting up equipment and finishing some paperwork, they were free to visit the very mystical Port Ghalib at sunset hours. After our steak dinner it was time for a glass of local wine & off to bed.

Sunday 16 th of October

Day 1 started in Port Ghalib and continued in Marsa Shoona . Ring bells at 7 am . It is time for the first breakfast onboard . At 9 am we are set to sail and start The Northern Itinerary Trip . Marsa Shoona, the first dive site of the itinerary, is at only 30 min sailing from Port Ghalib . Literallt the perfect place for the check dive . We spent 2 dives here . Dive briefing started at 10 am and 1:30 pm . A pinnacle of corals filled with glass fishes, Giant platax fishes, a garden of fire corals, butterly, angel, lion and goat fish and the Frog fish .Time for snack and we sail to Marsa Mobarak . At 4:30 pm we splash the water and we visit a couple of pinnacle just below the boat . The scorpion fish, the crocodile fish and the blue spotted sting rays are the main attraction of the dive . After dinner we enjoyed a night dive with different species of spider crabs and a giant murein .

Monday 17th of October

Day 2 started in Little Brother Island . The Brothers Island are situated 60 miles away from the coastline of Marsa Alam . We sailed all night and early in the morning we anchored in Little Brother Island . Dive briefing starts at 7:30 am .The first dive is located at the "Gorgonia Garden" . A beautiful diving scenario with huge fan corals covering the entire reef . A grey reef shark wander the area, cornet and butterfly fishes over all over the reef . 2 white tip oceanic sharks wildly swim just below our yacht .

The early and late afternoon dive are located in the North Plateau of the Island . The North Plateau is one of the most exciting dive site of the entire itinerary with an extremely rich marine life, stunning corals and sharks . We spot a grey reef shark and a single hammerhead shark . We contemplate the reef with colourful soft corals and clouds of anthias fish everywhere . We scored 4

Tuesday 18th of October

Day 3 started in Big Brother Island . Sunrise is at 6 am . The Big Brother island stands out for his rocky profile and light house which was built by the british in the 1883 . Big Brother Island is located at only 1km from The Little Brother Island . It is worldwide known for his drop off walls, wrecks ( Numidia and Aida ) and sharks . Dive briefing starts at 7:30 am . At 8 pm we splash the water . A boat to boat dive along the south plateau and east wall. . Breakfast and the 2nd dive is a boat to boat dive along the south plateau and west wall . A white Tip oceanic shark is the main attraction of the dives . The coral reef is colorful and healthy with plenty of soft corals and black corlas . Butterfly, Black snappers, and cornet fish are literally everywhere . After lunch It is time to dive the Numidia Wreck located at the North side of the Island . A zodiac to zodiac dive . We descend along the wall and reach the wreck . We enter the engine room and then exit into the blue . A Napoleon wrasse wander the area just outside the wreck, giant barracudas hovers in shallow waters while attending a ceaning station with excited cleaning wrasses. Tunas and giant trevallies also pass by in the blue . The late afternoon dive is located North- West . We dive the wreck of Aida . We score 4 dives today

Wednesday 19th of October

Day 4 started in Daedalus Reef . We sail at night and cover 80 miles to reach early in the morning Dadalus reef . Dive briefing starts at 7:30 am. The early morning and late morning dives are located in the north side of the island . We spot the entire school of 20 hammerhead shark and a Manta Ray. Also a school of barracudas hovering the deep blue water and a couple of Giant Trevallies and Tunas . The early afternoon dive is located at the Anemone Garden . A zodiac to zodiac dive . We started the dive staring at the anemones and clown fishes and then drift along the colorful wall and reach the monumental elephant ear coral . We score 4 dives today including a late afternoon dive at the South Plateau . We spent a lovely evening with the amazing background of the Lighthouse of Daedalus reef .

Thursday 20th of October

Day 4 started in Daedalus Reef. The early and late morning dives are dedicated to dive the North Walls of the island . We descend along the wall, reach the blue water and 3 hammerhead sharks swim below us . . The early and late afternoon dive are located at the South Plateau . The manta ray appear just below the boat. We scored 4 dives today

Friday 21rd of October

Day 5 started in Elphinstone reef . Elphistone is one of the best reef in the entire Red Sea . Stunning corals, vertical walls and breath-taking Plateaus . We dove the North Plateau,. an intense current is present . a drift dive along the wall . a white tip reef shark and Longimanus are the hot spot of the dive. The 2nd dive is located in Shaab abu Dabab . We dove a beautiful coral garden at a shallow depth and visit a swim - through. Time for lunch and we sail back to Port Ghalib. At 6 pm we celebrate The Iron and Nitrox Certifications.
