Belize Aggressor III - Captains Log- 5th- 12th November, 2016

Friday- Black Beauty & The Elbow


Saturday November 5th

All the guests boarded in the afternoon via Water Taxi.

Refreshments on arrival, passenger safety briefing and an evening dinner served onboard. Staying at the dock overnight.


Sunday November 6th

Passage eastward. Winds from North –East for the crossing to Turneffe Island. The initial equipment check dives were made at Sandy Slope. All the divers were happy with their own dive equipment. Divers found Eagle rays, scorpion fish, stingrays and lobsters. After two dives at this site, the Aggressor III headed further East to Long Caye . A dive and a night dive at Julie’s jungle. Divers saw Octopus, squid, lobsters, basket stars and tarpon.

After the night dive, Aggressor III headed to its night mooring in the lagoon north of long Caye.


Monday November 7th

Sunshine and minimal swell made for two excellent dives at Half Moon Caye Wall. Divers found Caribbean reef sharks, Pipefish, eagle rays, southern sting -rays and schooling creole wrasse.

Lunch was taken while Aggressor III headed to the reefs on the West of long Caye. Two dives at Long Caye Ridge where divers found a pair of Nurse sharks, groupers, Neck crabs and scorpion fish. On the night dive, divers interacted with both spiny and slipper lobsters, over 30 squid, octopus and a hawksbill turtle. After the night dive, Belize Aggressor moved and stayed its night mooring.


Tuesday November 8th

After breakfast, Belize Aggressor moved to the reefs south of Half Moon Caye. Two dives at Lighthouse wall dive site. Divers found schools of creole wrasse, many southern stingrays in the sand beds, groupers and eagle rays. After these two dives and while guests had lunch, Belize Aggressor moved further West along the same reef system to Chain wall dive site. Two dives at this site where it is possible to sight larger animals. Divers interacted with several Caribbean reef sharks on both dives. Divers also found both green and white spotted morays, spiny lobsters and sharp tail eels. On the night dive, at the same site, divers found tarpon, large crabs, many basket stars, feeding eagle rays and lettuce sea slugs.

After this night dive, Belize Aggressor moved to it’s night mooring.


Wednesday November 9th

After guests had breakfast, Aggressor III travelled northwards meandering through the lagoon of lighthouse reef to the dive site “Blue Hole”. A unique dive site with it’s own fascinating stalagmite structures and natural circular form.

After the dive, Belize Aggressor III retraced its path southwards to the North of Long Caye, heading through the pass into the lagoon and then made passage due west, to the Reefs on the East Coast of Turneffe Island. Calm seas for two afternoon dives at Grand Bogue dive site. Divers found eagle rays, stingrays and a friendly remora fish, which stayed with the diver group.

The night dive was made at the same location. The water sounded with the loud verberations from the endemic toadfish. Squid, octopus and lobsters were also found on the night dive, plus many feeding basket stars.


Thursday November 10th

After breakfast, with calm seas and staying on the same extended fringing reef system, Belize Aggressor III headed North to Johnny’s wrench dive site. Two morning dives on this North/South running drop off. Divers found lettuce sea slugs, schooling wrasse, stingrays and scorpion fish.

While guests had lunch onboard, Belize Aggressor headed south to the southern end of Turneffe Island. Two dives plus a night dive at Front Porch Dive Site. Divers found many lobsters, hawksbill turtles, many bearded toadfish, yellow tail moray eels and flamingo tongues. Belize Aggressor relocated to nearby Black Beauty dive site. Staying at the dive site overnight.

Friday November 11th

Divers awoke already at the Black Beauty Dive site. A dawn dive to see the reef awaken. Divers found Moray eels and lobsters. After breakfast, calm seas allowed for a dive on the Elbow dive site. The Belize Aggressor’s last dive of the trip was completed on the southern tip of Turneffe Island. Divers swam with up to four Eagle rays, schools of creole wrasse and numerous crabs and Eels were found.

Aggressor III headed back to port. The evening Barbecue, wine and cheese preceded the evening’s entertainment of a photography slideshow of all the guests. Following that show reel of great underwater photos collated throughout the week was an Award presentation to the following divers

…Well that’s the week over and at 8:00AM on Saturday, the crew said their farewells to the guests departing the Beautiful Belize Aggressor III.
