This week we saw a bunch of eels, starting with 3 free-swimming morays at Sandy Slope on Turneffe Atoll. We also saw an Eagle Ray cruise by, then at the end of the dive, we saw 2 more. There were also schooling snappers, grunts, jacks, chromis, and Creole wrasse.

Dive Sites: Half Moon Caye Wall & Julie’s Jungle

Today we saw a huge octopus out in the open on the sand. We watched it for about 15 minutes as it hunted. Later in the dive, we found a juvenile octopus hiding out in a conch shell. We also saw several Caribbean reef sharks, a pair of Eagle rays, hawksbill turtles, Southern stingrays, and of course, free swimming green morays. There was also an abundance of Nassau and black groupers on the wall.

Dive Site: Long Caye Wall & Silver Caves

We had some awesome dives today! Not only were the dives great, but a huge pod of spinner dolphins surrounded the boat as we were motoring. On the dives we saw green and spotted morays, a nurse shark, a Caribbean reef shark, lots of neck crabs and flamingo tongues, hawksbill turtle, skeleton shrimp, squid, octopus, tons of lobsters, dozens of lettuce sea slugs, a sea hare, and white speckled nudibranch.

Dive Sites: Blue Hole & Site X

For our first dive of the day, we dropped down to the depths below, where we swam among massive stalactite formations inside the Great Blue Hole. While underway from the Blue Hole to our next site, we saw 2 loggerheads on the surface.

At Site X, we watched a huge green moray eel out and about, saw several Southern stingrays, and found 2 huge nurse sharks all cuddled up and tucked away below a coral head. We also saw lots of jawfish and garden eels. A big scorpionfish was hiding in plain site on the top of the reef.
