Dive Sites: Sandy Slope & Zipline
Today was the beginning of a fantastic week of diving. We spent the first couple days at Turneffe Atoll, starting on the West side at Sandy Slope and Zipline for the first day of diving. After prepping for the dive week, we did a quick weight check then headed off to explore. Some of today’s sightings included Peacock flounders, a Southern stingray hiding under sand, a large green moray under big sponge, several spotted morays, a huge channel clinging crab, a pair of webbed burrfish, a tiny pipefish, some pelagic tunicates and comb jellies, a massive spotted Eagle ray, a couple yellow stingrays, mahogany snappers, lots of lobsters, and the White Spotted Toadfish. We were also lucky enough to get a visit from 4 dolphins with a baby dolphin.

On Monday, we covered the Southern and South East parts of Turneffe Atoll, diving at Front Porch and Johnny’s Wrench. We saw several big Barracudas, groupers, and free-swimming green morays. A large loggerhead head turtle was sitting in the sand and then swam up to some of the divers. A large Spotted Eagle ray cruised by near mooring.

Dive Sites: Blue Hole & Quebrada
Last night we headed over to Lighthouse Reef, and then made our way to the Great Blue Hole first thing in the morning. After exploring massive stalactite formations deep below the surface, we headed over to Half Moon Caye Natural Monument for a short island excursion. On the island, we saw the nesting grounds for the Red-Footed Booby bird and the Magnificent Frigate Birds.
For the afternoon, we headed over to Quebrada to do our dives. We had our first Reef Shark sighting of the week today. We also saw tarpon, slipper lobster, 2 scorpionfish, hawksbill turtle, eagle ray, spotted moray, neck crabs, wire coral shrimp, slender filefish, neck crabs, adult spotted drum, a big green moray out feeding, schools of jacks, chubs, snappers, rainbow runners. There was a Nurse shark on the night dive, as well as octopus, squid, and nudibranchs.

Dive Site: Amberhead South
Our final dive of the week was at Amberhead South just before breakfast. This dive probably got everyone hungry with all the lobster sightings. There were tons of fish zipping around the beautiful coral reefs and sponges. We saw some eels, and stingrays, several groupers, and lots of barracudas. It was a great week with some awesome people. Looking forward to doing it again!
