Saturday
Our guests arrived on a sunny Saturday afternoon, and were welcomed onboard the BVI Aggressor to start their adventure for the week. After unpacking their dive gear, Captain Casey provided our guests with the Welcome Briefing, as well as an introduction from the crew, for everyone to get to know each other a bit better. Followed by a delicious dinner prepared by Jason, and an early night for everyone, to be ready for the day of diving to come.
Sunday
With the sun just creeping over the top of the hill of Tortola, the vessel was heading out of Village Cay Marina, and making our way to our first dive site on Norman Island, and what a dive we had! 3 Nurse sharks, a Caribbean reef shark, 2 Southern stingrays, schools of snappers, and a friendly jack who stayed with us the whole dive - and this is all on dive one!! The rest of the day continued to provide for our divers, with lettuce sea slugs, more sharks, big lobsters, tiny coral banded shrimps, trunkfish, filefish, angelfish, we have had a busy first day!
Monday
We jumped straight in for an early dive back at Santa Monica Rock, and again had our 2 resident Caribbean Reef sharks escort our divers around the site, here we also found huge lobsters all over the site, and hundreds of reef fish to observe on the safety stop. Throughout the day we more and more fish fill up our sightings board, and also had Kerrie reach her 500th dive, and JR reach his 650th dive, big milestones for some great divers. We also had a return over to Willy T Wreck to see the skeleton pirate ship, to get some great shots looking at this very unique underwater experience, as well as finding a juvenile spotted drum.
Tuesday
As the sun was rising over Norman Island this morning, the BVI Aggressor was underway and heading for Salt Island, passing by Peter Island on the flat calm waters in the Sir Francis Drake Channel. Our divers jumped straight in to find 4 wrecks collected conveniently together in one dive site, and explored and parts of them, as well as trying to get as close as possible to those garden eels before they disappear into the sand. For the rest of the day, we had visits from Hawksbill turtles, big groupers, schools of jacks and grunts. For our other divers of the day, we enjoyed drift diving over the reef, all the joy of seeing a lot of a site, with little to no effort - as long as we were going with the current! We also ended the day with a presentation by Jim about the wreck of the RMS Rhone, so everyone knew a bit of the history of the wreck, and what to expect for the next day of diving.
Wednesday
The time has arrived for us to explore the wreck of the RMS Rhone, firstly we explored the bow, which is in good condition, even after 155 years of being underwater. We had excellent visibility for the dives today, and could nearly see the full length of the bow section. Next up was the stern, which had plenty of life surrounding all parts to it, including schools of squirrelfish, snappers, grunts, pufferfish, triggers and filefish, as well as an adventurous octopus having a wander out over the reef, and displaying all of its colors and shapes it can change into. We also explored the reef, just to the south of the wreck, and managed to see more of the little critters as well as a turtle!
Thursday
With the waters being flat calm this morning, we went straight over to Seal Dog Rocks, a great site for some pelagic fish to swim through, we had some Spanish Mackerel, Wahoo, as well as a Caribbean Reef shark, some rays, and big schools of snapper all over this rock pinnacle. Later on our dive site included a hammerhead, nurse and tiger shark, all in the form of a plane wreck, a great little site with three planes that have been turned into an art exhibition and transformed into sharks. And to finish the day we had one last wreck with more art over it, this one in the form of a kraken, the Kodiak Queen is a large wreck with plenty of swim throughs to see the insides, and had a lot of small critters that come out at night.
Friday
Our last day of diving, we started on a site that has had a lot of marine surveys completed on it in the past, again this site off Cockroach Island is surrounded by coral reef, with an abundance of life all round, we had plenty of lobsters, nurse sharks, turtles and rays. And then finishing the week with a beautiful site, which has an abundance of everything, a plethora of fish life, teaming with coral, and some fantastic underwater topography to top it all off.
The crew would like to thank everyone that joined us onboard the BVI Aggressor!!
Until next time, safe travels and plenty more bubbles.
Best Wishes
BVI Aggressor Crew
