Saturday – Welcome Aboard
Boarding officially began at 4:00 p.m. Guests were greeted warmly by the Belize Aggressor III staff, including returning adventurers T (on her third consecutive charter) and David (on his second in a row). Seventeen excited divers were ready for a new itinerary Glover’s Reef Atoll.
Once on board, guests set up their dive stations, checked their gear, and adjusted weights for comfort. The staff conducted individual cabin orientations, reviewing safety equipment, escape routes, and amenities. Captain Monique led a champagne welcome toast, followed by a comprehensive safety and vessel briefing.
The evening concluded with a delicious dinner prepared by Chef JR, setting the tone for a fantastic week ahead.
Sunday – Turneffe Atoll to Glover’s Reef
At 4:45 a.m., we departed Fort George Marina, reaching the southern end of Turneffe Atoll after about four hours. We completed three dives here before transiting to Glover’s Reef.
Our first stop was Black Beauty, a stunning wall dive adorned with lush soft corals, towering barrel sponges, and deep crevices hiding white spotted toadfish a Turneffe specialty. The check dives allowed divers to fine tune buoyancy and adjust equipment. Encounters included reef sharks, harlequin pipefish, squat shrimp, decorator crabs, spiny lobsters, lizardfish, spotted drum, burrfish, and scorpionfish.
After lunch, we moved slightly north to Front Porch. Similar topography but teeming with life reef sharks, slender filefish, midnight parrotfish, and schools of yellowtail parrotfish grazing along the reef.
We began our long transit toward Glover’s Reef Atoll, arriving around 8:30 p.m. The vessel’s deck lights attracted four large spotted eagle rays, which gracefully circled the boat throughout the night a magical welcome to Glover’s.
Monday – Gorgonian Wall & Middle Caye Wall
The sun rose over Manta Island, painting the horizon gold. After a hearty breakfast, we transited to Gorgonian Wall, located on the southeastern side of Glover’s. The site featured a 40 ft reef top dropping dramatically to over 100 ft. Divers encountered reef sharks, a nurse shark, spotted eel, lobsters, flounder, scorpionfish, and even a rare chain eel a thrilling find.
In the afternoon, we moved to Middle Caye Wall, where divers delighted in sightings of a hawksbill turtle, spotted eagle ray, queen triggerfish, arrow blennies, and a stunning black seahorse the highlight of the day. Excitement spread quickly as everyone hoped to find more in the days ahead.
The night dive revealed an entirely different world: spiny lobsters, slipper lobsters, hermit crabs, southern stingrays, nurse sharks, silver sides, and a captivating octopus putting on a show near the mooring line.
Tuesday – Sand Dollar Flats, Abyss & Bev’s Garden
We began the morning at Sand Dollar Flats, a shallow, sandy reef with scattered coral heads and large gaps in between. Divers encountered midnight parrotfish, southern stingrays, barracuda, and scorpionfish.
After breakfast, we moved to Abyss, where a mild current limited us to one dive, but it was worth it nurse sharks, flounders, and swarms of creole wrasse filled the blue.
For the afternoon, we relocated to Bev’s Garden, a diver favorite. The site surprised us with an unusual school of barracuda, another chain eel, a massive nurse shark nestled between coral heads, and vibrant staghorn and elkhorn corals. The reef was alive with southern stingrays, lobsters, neck crabs, and goatfish.
During the dusk and night dives, we encountered octopus, lobsters, and countless bloodworms providing an impromptu coral feeding show.
Wednesday – Abyss & Southwest Wall
We returned to Abyss for calm morning dives with near-perfect conditions. Pete spotted an octopus tucked into the reef, and a large barracuda hovered at a cleaning station as cleaner gobies swam into its mouth and out its gills. We also encountered green and spotted moray eels, along with golden-banded coral shrimp nestled in sponges.
The afternoon took us to Southwest Wall, where flounders, barracuda, hamlets, angelfish, butterflyfish, jawfish, and horse eye jacks filled the scene. On the night dive, we saw a toadfish, squid, channel crabs, lobsters, and shimmering clouds of silver sides.
Thursday – West Side Exploration
For our final day at Glover’s Reef, we worked our way west, revisiting a few favorites. At Bev’s Garden, divers spotted stingrays, snapping shrimp, garden eels, and scorpionfish.
Next, we revisited Middle Caye Wall, where divers encountered a small reef shark, vibrant schools of creole wrasse, queen parrotfish, and once again the same large black seahorse discovered earlier in the week. It had nestled into the reef perfectly, and Sherri’s keen eye found it again!
We concluded the day at West Wall, a site surrounded by sand beds and coral ridges. Though visibility was slightly reduced, the dives were spectacular nurse sharks, juvenile trunkfish, lobsters, banded coral shrimp, flamingo tongues, and a dazzling swim through filled with silver sides.
As the sun set, we began our overnight transit back to Turneffe Atoll.
Friday – Turneffe Finale & Farewell
Our final dives took place at Front Porch, on the south end of Turneffe. At 6:00 and 8:15 a.m., divers descended into calm, clear water for a perfect ending to the trip. Highlights included spotted toadfish, green moray eels, lobsters, scrawled filefish, trunkfish, spadefish, arrow crabs, and reef sharks making lazy passes in the distance.
