Saturday
On this beautiful sunny day, we welcomed guests on board for this week’s Aggressor adventure! As everyone unpacked their dive gear and organized their bags, we showed them to their rooms and let them unwind. Later that evening, Charlotte and captain Casey gave the safety briefing and boat orientation. We finished off our night with a delicious meal by chef Brad, and guests headed to bed early to get ready for their first day of diving.
Sunday
We woke up bright and early, leaving our dock at Village Cay, and moving to Norman Island to start our first day of diving! Divers were given their dive briefing presentation and geared up for their checkout dive at Angelfish Reef. There they saw blue hamlets, angel fish, and a turtle. Chef Brad greeted guests with a fluffy orange cake, and we geared up for our next dive excursion. We had a delicious spread of ribs and vegetables for lunch, and a nice long break for guests to relax and recharge before our afternoon and night dive. On our night dive, we descended with the sunset and immediately were greeted by a squad of arrow squid, inking about and playing in our light rays. The dive continued on with very active night life, including a baby octopus, a yellow and brown sponge crab, a lettuce leaf nudibranch, and a white spotted moray eel! A perfect way to end our first day.
Monday
New day, new anchorage! We arrived at Peter Island early morning as the sun rose, the last anchorage spot of the Rhône before it sank.
We prepared for our first dive to the Rhône anchor that broke off, and explored the surrounding reef and sand patches. Throughout the day, we had many more fun and adventurous dives, including one to the Willy T wreck. There, divers spent time walking the plank, visiting the pirate skeletons, and looking for hurried treasures. Charlotte was busy teaching an advanced open water course, where her student completed her peak performance buoyancy dive, practicing her underwater limbo skills, and her navigation dive, where she focused on compass and natural navigation. After another delicious dinner from Chef Brad, we finished off our night with a presentation about the Rhône wreck and its history, given by our first mate Charlotte.
Tuesday
Tuesday morning, we left Peter Island to move anchorage to Salt Island, the last place the Rhône was anchored before its fatal sinking. After some delicious breakfast sandwiches, we headed to our first dive on the Rhône, the bow of the wreck. This first action packed dive was filled with life, as divers spotted a reef shark, nurse shark, two eagle rays, a southern stingray, and a spotted moray eel! If it’s Tuesday, that means taco Tuesday for lunch! Chef Brad prepared us a delicious spread, and divers carried out the rest of their day of diving at the Rhone, visiting both the midship and stern of the wreck. After dinner, two brave divers suited up for their fifth dive of the day, the night dive. We chose to go back to the stern of the Rhone, as it provides an excellent shallow, and boulder site to navigate at night. We saw lots of glass fish, and finished off the dive with an incredibly active octopus, who was free swimming around, and hunting for tiny fish and crab! Another great day of diving.
Wednesday
Wednesday morning, we left Salt Island and headed to our new anchorage at Cooper Island. After a delicious breakfast, we geared up for another five-dive day, starting strong at Wreck Alley! Divers explored the four deep wrecks, and also saw a large southern sting ray with remoras in tow. Chef Brad prepared us a tasty lasagna lunch, and we went right back to it! The weather was in our favor, so we headed to Ginger Island to dive one of our favorite dive sites, Ginger Steps. Off in the distance, we spotted a reef shark swimming in the deep, and we were graced with incredible visibility of around 150+ ft. As we explored the steps, we also found a tiny drum fish hiding under a ledge, and a large JAW FISH. The day proceeded with more great dives, and we finished off with an epic night dive at thumb rock, where we were greeted by another friendly octopus, and lots of large tarpon. Divers enjoyed hot chocolate when they returned, as well as stargazing in the hot tub! Another successful day of diving for the books.
Thursday
Thursday morning, we moved anchorage to Virgin Gorda to be closer to The Baths! We ventured out for our excursion first thing in the morning, and guests were able to explore the massive volcanic formations and boulders along the coastline of Virgin Gorda. Back on the boat, guests enjoyed a delicious pork chop lunch, while the crew pulled anchor to move back to Cooper Island so we could continue our day of diving. The first dive was on Vanishing Rock, where divers saw a huge school of horse yes jacks, and sergeant majors swarming around a coral head. Divers finished off their diving day at Rhone Reef, where we saw horse eyed jacks, lots of flamingo tongues, and a drum fish! Continuing with Thursday night tradition, Chef Brad prepared a Thanksgiving feast, paired with lots of good wine, good stories, and good times all around!
Friday
It’s always a sad day for guests when it’s their last day of diving! We started bright at early at 6am for our first dive, venturing to Cistern point for a dawn dive. The few brave guests who came along, were rewarded with an array of sittings, including a reef shark, a stingray, giant barracudas, and a school of tarpon on our safety stop. On the second dive we finished strong at Thumb Rock, where we explored around the boulders and the thumb shaped rock, while a school of friendly tarpon followed us the entire dive. Divers spotted a sleeping nurse shark at the very end of our dive, making it a perfect end to a great week of diving. As the day came to an end, the crew and guests gathered on the sun deck for the cocktail party, shared stories and highlights of their trip, and toasted each other for an epic week of diving on board the Aggressor!
The crew would like to thank everyone for joining us onboard the BVI Aggressor!
Safe travels, and we hope to see you all again!
All the Best,
BVI Aggressor Crew
